The University Vineyard

The Desert Farming Initiative took over the management in 2018 of the UNR experimental vineyard that was planted in the late 1990’s. The vineyard was planted to 12 varietals on a randomized block design in efforts to determine the best varietal selection for the high desert climate of Norther Nevada.

It is currently farmed and utilized as a training site for educating and teaching students and the public viticulture practices and how to manage vineyards, by a hands-on, learn-by doing approach. We are always looking for volunteers and student interns who would like to work in the vineyard throughout the growing season and summer months.
