DFI Launches First-Ever CSA, New Farm Stand at UNR

The team of DFI staff and student workers responsible for bringing the first-ever CSA to the UNR community!

Today, the Desert Farming Initiative is pleased to announce the launch of the first-ever Community Supported Agriculture program, as well as a brand new farm stand.

This marks an important achievement for DFI in making ultra-local, sustainably-grown, healthy food available to the University of Nevada, Reno community.

Students, faculty, and staff of UNR’s College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources will make their first CSA pick-ups of the year today in the DFI pack house. The CSA will offer 12 weeks of fresh produce grown on the UNR campus from Aug 22 – Nov. 7, 2019. For week one, the family box (pictured) is piled high with mixed raspberries, Italian Globe eggplant, Genovese basil, baby red beets, Sweet Italian peppers, early girl tomatoes, carrots, White Russian kale, two varieties of melons, and a lush bunch of cilantro. In the future, we hope to expand our CSA to the broader UNR community.

The new farm stand is located in front of the Fleischmann Agriculture Building (directions and location) on the south side of UNR and will be open to the public every Thursday from Aug. 22 to Nov. 7, 2019, stocked with campus-grown fruits, veggies, and herbs.

We’re so excited to offer these opportunities to the UNR community and look forward to seeing you all at the farm stand this coming semester!
